How do I install Shoplift?

Installing Shoplift on your store can be done in just a few clicks by installing the Shoplift app from the Shopify App Store.

What can I test with Shoplift?

Shoplift is a comprehensive A/B testing platform that leverages the power of Shopify templates and themes. With template testing, you can test any individual page on your Shopify store, as well as test groups of similar pages (like product pages for a grouping of products). With theme testing, you can test global elements (such as your header or mini-cart) and entire themes.

What types of templates can be tested with Shoplift?

Any template in your Shopify theme can be tested with Shoplift. This includes homepages, collection pages, product pages, landing pages, and even your cart or search results pages. How do I edit my pages for the purposes of a test?

Shoplift is built for Shopify, and all of your edits for testing can be made directly within the Shopify Theme Editor. This allows you to take full advantage of the editing capabilities provided by your theme, as well as make edits natively on your existing pages without any coding required. What themes are supported by Shoplift?

Shoplift supports all Shopify themes, whether custom or from the Shopify Theme Store. Depending on your theme architecture certain editing capabilities in the Shopify Theme Editor may be limited, for example, if you are using a legacy (Online Store 1.0) theme. Do I need to manually install any scripts on my theme?

No, you do not need to manually install any scripts on your theme to use Shoplift. Shoplift tests are conducted via a small tracking script that we dynamically add to your theme, and reference just after the opening <head> tag in your theme.liquid file.

How does Shoplift track conversions?

Shoplift tracks conversions using Shopify's Web Pixel API, which is a server-side method to track and report on various customer events like pageviews, carts, checkouts, and orders. For more detail on how this works, see Visitor Attribution.

Does Shoplift track post-purchase upsells?

We support all major post-purchase upsell apps, like Aftersell, out of the box.

Does Shoplift track orders made with one-click checkout payment solutions?

Shoplift natively supports all major one-click checkout payment solutions, even if they navigate away from Shopify's checkout flow, like Shop Pay, Apple Pay, Google Pay, PayPal, and more.

Does Shoplift have integrations with subscription apps?

Yes! Shoplift has out-of-the-box integrations with all major subscription apps and requires no prior setup to report on essential subscription metrics in your test reports. We currently support Recharge, Prive, Loop, Skio, Appstle, Subify, Yotpo, Ongoing Subscriptions, and Ordergroove. We also support Bold Subscriptions if you have configured your account to provide "first order" tags on initial subscription orders.

Do Shoplift tests have any "flicker" or page blinking?

Shoplift tests do not have any "flicker", which is common to many A/B testing platforms. Whenever a test is launched, Shoplift dynamically updates the tracking script on your theme to include an "anti-flicker" component which ensures that tested visitors will never see both experiences you are testing. If you've used Google Optimize in the past, please note that the Shoplift anti-flicker script has been known to adversely interact with the Google Optimize anti-flicker script. Does Shoplift have any performance impact on my store?

Shoplift has a near-zero impact on your store (about a 2-point reduction in page speed when measured with Google's page performance toolarrow-up-right). Pagespeed equates to dollars in ecommerce, and we pride ourselves on our excellence in this area.

What happens to my tests if I switch themes often as part of my theme deployment process?

If you change themes, the Shoplift tracking script will automatically be migrated to your new theme if it is not detected. If you have launched a test on your old theme and publish a new theme while the test is active, as long as the templates relating to the test remain on your new theme, the test will continue to run. If the templates being tested are no longer available in your new theme, the test will be ended and you will need to relaunch a new test on your new theme. See Switching Themes for more info.

What kind of test reporting is provided by Shoplift?

Shoplift provides robust reporting for every test performed on your store. We use a Bayesian statistical analysis model to provide a highly accurate significance value for collected test data, and report on key conversion and engagement metrics like conversion rate, average order value, revenue per session, and more. Do Shoplift tests integrate with my existing reporting?

All Shoplift tests append a parameter to the end of tested URLs. If you want to analyze test results in other reporting tools, you can filter for the URL parameter of the specific test you want to analyze. For more information, see Reporting Tools.

Does Shoplift support testing of third-party landing pages?

We fully support Replo, PageFly, GemPages, and more. For more information, see Page Builder Apps.

Can I use heatmapping tools (like Hotjar) to evaluate test variants?

You can! Shoplift tests append a parameter to the end of URLs for tested templates. If you want to analyze user behavior for a tested template, you can filter for the URL parameter in your heatmapping tool of choice. For more information, see Heatmapping Tools.

What are the different pricing plans?

Shoplift has three plans: Core, Advanced, and Pro. The cost of each plan depends on how much website traffic you have, and is highly flexible, which means that you don't need to pay for more than you need. All plans allow for unlimited tests. For more information, see Subscription Plans.

What happens if I exceed the limit for my pricing plan?

If you exceed the visitor allotment for your plan, your tests will be temporarily paused until you upgrade your plan, or your current plan rolls over to the next billing cycle and the usage resets. Once your plan usage is no longer overaged your tests can be resumed. See more info about Pausing and Resuming Tests.

What happens if I remove Shoplift from my store?

If you uninstall Shoplift from the Shopify Admin, you will need to manually remove the Shoplift tracking script from your theme. It is recommended that you uninstall Shoplift from within the app, as this will allow Shoplift to automatically remove any unnecessary files and scripts from your theme.

Does Shoplift leave any files in my theme after I uninstall it?

If you uninstall Shoplift from within the app, we will automatically remove any leftover scripts and files from your theme.

Will testing affect my search engine listings or SEO?

Nope! We've implemented advanced blockers on bot traffic (including Googlebot) on all test variants when tests are conducted, so your website will appear exactly the same to search engines.

Do you exclude bot traffic from your reporting?

We do! We've implemented advanced bot blockers that prevent most bots from impacting your test data, including crawlers from major search engines, like Googlebot.

Can I edit the code of a Shoplift template?

Yes! Shoplift templates are Shopify templates, so you can edit the code for any template created as part of a test as you would for your own templates. For more information, see Edit your Variant.

Does Shoplift work with Online Store 2.0?

Shoplift is built to work with all Online Store 2.0 themes. See Theme Compatibility for more information.

Can my developers test Shoplift on a development store?

They can! If your developers want to test Shoplift on a development store, simply have them install the app from the App Store listingarrow-up-right. We'll recognize that the app is a development store and enable a test charge for the recurring subscription so that your developers are able to install without a payment method set up on the development store.

Why does my activity log show "Shoplift changed [theme]"?

Whenever we update our script and release a new version of Shoplift, we will update this script on all of your themes to ensure you have the latest version of our app. We will only do this once per theme.
